Passage:
Proverbs 1:7-10*
7. The fear of the LORD is
the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom
and discipline.
8. Listen, my son, to your
father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's
teaching.
9. They will be a garland to
grace your head and a chain to adorn your
neck.
10. My son, if sinners entice
you, do not give in to them.
Question
In verse 8 above, what's
so special about the advice of parents?
Practical
help
It's true that some
parents act like fools. You may need to ignore their
foolish advice and ways. (When Scripture warns us to
avoid fools, it doesn't tell us to exempt foolish
parents.)
But if your parents aren't
fools, listen up. They -- or folks who have served in
their place -- dispense loving and dependable counsel.
Long after they pass from the scene, they serve as
standards by which to judge other advisers you
enlist.
Now that you're off to a new
year, commit yourself to counselors who are no less
loving and dependable.
If you struggle with porn, such
advisers, along with wisdom from the Bible itself, can
help you stand strong and say no to smut.
