Few texts in Scripture capture the thoroughness and simplicity of
the Gospel as well as the verse above.
Thoroughness, because the verse applies to all people, no matter
their sin ("if anyone...").
Simplicity, because the path to new life is straightforward and easy
to understand (simply be in Christ).
Yet many Christian porn strugglers believe the Gospel excludes them
or requires complex repentance. Does this describe you?
Could be, if you answer yes to either or both of the following
questions:
- Do you feel your porn habits are so bad that God doesn't want you?
- When you give in to porn, do you feel it takes lengthy purification
rites (abstaining from porn for three days, memorizing a book of the Bible, etc.) to
return to God's favor?
Friends, as the Book of Hebrews says over and over, Jesus is the
better way. No exclusive membership (everyone is welcome) or complex purification rites
(simply trust his claims).
No wonder the Gospel is good news.
