Practical
help
Fear is no match for
Internet porn.
Despite smut's devastating
effects on relationships and self-esteem, running
scared from it won't help you resist it.
Try prudence instead. Whereas
fear is the emotional avoidance of general
(often ambiguous) risks, prudence is the
rational escape from specific dangers. Fear
makes you quake in your boots; prudence helps you
stand strong.
How to become
prudent?
Write a list of specific
things that go wrong when you view Web smut. Start
with a short list maybe only three items (you
can add to it later). Think carefully about the
dangers on your list. Memorize them.
In other words, don't depend on
raw fear to fuel your flight from smut. See if
thinking about specific harmful results will
help you resist it better.
Many people have found that
prudence helps them kick porn. They're cheering you on
to make the same discovery.
