Passage: Galations 2:20-21* (the Apostle Paul speaking to the Christians in Galatia)

20. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

21. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!

Question

How can Christians who struggle with porn "set aside the grace of God"?

Practical help

Actually, there's no way Christians can set aside God's grace. It would be grandiose of them to think they had the power. Which is why Paul doesn't even try (see verse 21 above).

There's good news here for us Christians who struggle with smut. We don't have to set aside grace for a more potent sin buster (as though such a thing existed) — some absurd "sexual correctness", for example, or as Paul puts it, "the law." Else, "Christ died for nothing!"

How did Paul learn this? In the next study, we'll look at Paul's famous lament in Romans 7 of his "sinful nature." Does he really mean his nature is sinful? His reckoning with grace — rather, its reckoning with him — leads to a remarkable answer.
