Passage: Psalm 103:6-12*

6. The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.

7. He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel:

8. The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.

9. He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever;

10. he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.

11. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;

12. as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Questions

1. List the attributes of God found in this passage. (i.e. compassionate)

2. According to this passage, how does God treat you even when you've sinned?

3. How far can God remove you from a sinful habit like viewing pornography?

Practical help

Don't let the fear of what you deserve for your sins keep you from dealing with them!

When realizing you're doing something that is wrong, it's easy to think that you can't turn to God. It's easy to think that all you'll get from Him is condemnation and severe punishment.

Well, those thoughts aren't sponsored by God. They come straight from enemy #1 — the devil! He'd like nothing better than for you to always be afraid to confess your sins to God. He knows that as long as you don't, you'll stay in his playground.

Psalm 103:6-12 makes it clear that no matter how vile a sin you've committed, God is big enough to forgive it.

The next time you're tempted to visit a porn site and recognize that you shouldn't — try this:

1. Remember that God is compassionate and gracious.

2. Realize that you haven't made Him too angry to forgive you.

3. Trust that He can take your past sins so far away from you that He won't even remember them.
