Passage: Colossians 3:9-11*

9. Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,

10. and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him

11. a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.

Practical help

We justify lying all the time. This passage is not a call to hurt peoples feelings by telling them you really hate their new clothes or haircuts. But if we are real honest with ourselves, don't we sometimes find it easier to lie or just not tell the whole truth, in order to have others believe we are "good" people? When we do this, are we really being good?

Being honest with our feelings is to be a shared activity, not one-sided. You need to find people who will listen to you and who you will listen to. Face to face is better than over the Internet. If you have been in hiding with your secret porn activity, it's time to find help. And notice that external trappings, like income, education and race are not important when we begin to live a life of truth.
