Practical help

The reason most people’s lives aren’t changed when they become Christians is because they don’t take Jesus at His word. I can testify to this personally. My struggles with pornography didn’t end when I prayed to receive Christ as my savior, or when I was baptised. And I can’t blame God about it. The fact of the matter is when I try to work out my own solutions to my problems, I have no power to carry them out — sure, maybe I can go a day, perhaps even a week, but transformation for a life-time? No way! If I could fix my life then I would be able to tell you that you don’t need God for the problems that plague you either.

People will say, "Well if you need God to fix your problems, you’re just weak." Yet these same people haven’t been able to fix their own problems either — especially that one about impending death (it’s a fact of life, by the way). But the world celebrates Easter, not because bunnies are cute, but because Jesus came back from the grave and offers you and me life. But that’s not all, He wants to give us power. Why? So we can be witnesses for Him in order that others might be saved as well. What does pornography have to do with this? Nothing at all. And that’s my point. Pornography is a red herring. Looking at graphic sex on a computer is to miss having a life filled with power that saves people. If you have accepted Jesus for salvation, then take Him at His word and put away childish things like porn. Your power to overcome is waiting to be unleashed when you ask.
