Passage: Matthew 7:24-25*

24. "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock"

Questions

1. What is the upshot of this passage?

2. Have you applied any of Jesus' words from this Sermon on the Mount series?

Practical help

As any visitor of Pisa's leaning tower will tell you, the integrity of every structure begins with its foundation. If you forget, native Venetians may remind you that one-fourth of the cost of buildings in that floating city go into foundational pilings.

Just so the Christian life. Without a foundational relationship with God, we're ill-prepared to deal with life's temptations.

If Web porn has your walls crumbling, don't prop them up with 2-by-4s. Give your foundation a check. How consistent are your daily devotions? Your prayer life, is it vibrant? Does the Bible interest you? Are you putting your convictions into practice?

If the answers to these questions are no, go back to square (foot) one. Begin putting Christ's words from this eXXit series into action. Then see if the flood of porn doesn't recede -- with you standing firm.
