Title: To Judge or Not to Judge? ------------------------ Date: 1/16/2000
Keywords: "judge"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Matthew 7:1-2*

1. [Jesus speaking] "Do not judge lest you be judged yourselves.

2. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it shall be measured to you."

Questions

1. What is judging? How might it be different than discerning something?

2. Does this give us the freedom to do what ever we want? Why or why not?

Practical help

To approve of viewing pornography, you have to have judged that your actions are reasonable and justified. You might argue that God gave you the appetite and you are simply being consistent with the feelings He has given you. Since you have the sex drive, God must approve of you using it. Possibly you have another angle that allows you to think you are doing Gods will at the same time disobeying His instructions to be pure in mind and body.

The reality is that God has given us the ability to determine right from wrong, and even though we may succeed for a time in convincing ourselves that black is white, there will come a day when we will be forced to admit that we have been playing mind games.
