Passage: 1 Samuel 12:17-18*

17. "Is it not the wheat harvest today? I will call to the LORD, that He may send thunder and rain. Then you will know and see that your wickedness is great which you have done in the sight of the LORD by asking for yourselves a king."

18. So Samuel called to the LORD, and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.

Questions

1. Why would you trust the structural integrity of a bridge before you drive over it?

2. Why could you trust God to be available in a time of need?

Practical help

Remember the line in the Bette Midler hit that went something like "God is watching us, from a distance."? This is sort of where the Israelites were at the time they demanded an earthly king. They looked around (conveniently forgetting their multitude of divine deliverances) and said something like "all our enemies have kings to protect and deliver them, why should we not also have a king?" (see 1 Samuel 8:19-20) and "Our God does not wear armor and stand in front of our army, so how will our enemies know who we have as our deliverer?"

Sounds a bit like hedging their bets, doesn't it? Like "He's come through for us many times before, but how can I be absolutely sure?"

How do you know that God Almighty is there for you -- ready to provide you strength when you tremble, weak and defenseless, before porn's portal?

The only way to know for sure is to know that He is surely God and as such He makes good on His promises. He's demonstrated who He is countless times throughout history, even countless times this very day. If you haven't experienced the "sure thing" God's provided for you, then click here. You'll soon realize there's no need to hedge your bets!
