Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: Matthew 7:7-8*
7. [Jesus speaking] "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek,
and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
8. For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to
him who knocks it shall be opened."
Questions
1. How are the actions of asking, seeking and knocking the same and
how are they different from one another?
2. To whom is this promise given?
Practical help
In this passage Jesus is giving you and me an invitation with a
promise. He is saying, in effect, that He is available and He knows your needs which are
beyond your wants. Pornography, like every distraction and addiction in life, is a detour
from what really matters -- that being to know who you are, why you are here and to
connect if possible to the One who created you. It is the age-old search for the meaning
of what is really true and of greatest value in life.
Let me make a suggestion. Ask, in quiet thought, for Jesus to make
Himself known to you. Leave the details to Him. Seek (which requires you
to use energy) to find people to help you in your quest to know more. And finally, when
you have gained more information and knowledge, knock. What is knocking?
Its making the statement to God, that you know He is there and to please meet with you.
The promise is that the door will be opened. How do I know? It happened for me, and it
changed my life.
