Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passages:
Hebrews 2:11 and
4:16*
2:11. Both the one
[Jesus] who makes men holy and those who
are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is
not ashamed to call them brothers.
4:16. Let us then approach
the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may
receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time
of need.
James 1:5*
If any of you lacks
wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to
all without finding fault, and it will be given to
him.
Questions
1. What is shame?
2. How does shame prevent
communication?
Practical
help
Are you ashamed of viewing
Web porn?
Is the shame so intense that
viewing more porn seems the only way to deal with the
pain?
Break the vicious cycle by
stopping the shame altogether, not just anesthetizing
it. Try these steps:
1. Realize that Jesus,
who knows all your secrets, is not ashamed of you.
He even brags that he's your brother (Hebrews
2:11). If he isn't ashamed of you, why should you
be?
2. Take advantage of your
shame-free status by confessing your struggles to
Jesus. Though he knows them already, you may need
to experience firsthand how confession, without
fear of condemnation, relieves shame.
3. Then boldly ask God to
help you conquer your struggles. Ask for mercy,
grace, help, wisdom (Hebrews 4:16 and James
1:5).
God's reaction? He'll give these
things to you generously without picking at
your faults (James 1:5).
Your reaction? Claim God's help,
and spit at the shame. Then spit at the smut. If you
fall, keep seeking help from God.
And keep spitting.
