Passage: Jeremiah 8:6-7*

6. I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying, "What have I done?" Each pursues his own course like a horse charging into battle.

7. Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But my people do not know the requirements of the LORD.

Questions

1. In the big picture of created order, how would you rank humankind compared to the birds of the air?

2. What can we learn from the birds, relative to this passage?

Practical help

The next time someone calls you bird brain maybe you should smile and say "Well, I hope so." I'm sure birds do a lot of seemingly brainless things, but the things they should do -- those necessary for their fruitful lives -- are to them "no brainers." Why? Because God imprinted them with what they needed, as birds, to live well. Would God do any less for the pinnacle of his creation -- humankind?

Viewing pornography for the first time is one of those things that I'd bet (only a guess) that everyone feels, in their gut, is wrong. That "gut feeling," just like a bird's instincts, is a gift that God impressed on us when we were created. We start are lives with amazing "impressions" from God and then seem to spend the rest of our time "thinking" our way around them. Don't get me wrong -- God wants us to use our brains -- he just doesn't like them used to map detours around his impressions.

The next time you're tempted to surf to a porn site remember that first gut feeling. This time think like a bird and fly to a site where your gut tells you -- "I can honor God here!"
