Practical help
The Israelites take a lot of abuse these days for their on-again-off-again faithfulness. It's all funny — "Part the Red Sea one day, worship the golden calf the next? Can You Believe These Guys?" — until we examine our lives.
Don't we praise God on Sunday mornings, only to view porn on Sunday night? Can you believe us guys?
Some of us may evade this uncomfortable question by asking one of our own: "What's wrong with pornography?" That sounds remarkably like "what's wrong with a golden calf?" Both posit an alternative deity. By apologizing for smut, we merely act "in accordance with the customs of the nations."
It should go without saying that pornography and Christianity are incompatible. But since some argue otherwise, let's keep the record straight: God brooks no rivals. And the more we try to downplay our depravity, the more obvious our depravity becomes.
