Title: Therapeutic One Anothers: Serve ---------------- Date: 1/23/2000
Keywords:   "one another" "serve"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages:

Galatians 5:13* -

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

1 Peter 4:10* -

As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Questions

1. Galatians 5:13 says that Christians are to serve each other “through love.” Can you picture what service WITHOUT love might look like?

2. Galatians 5:13 says that the way Christians are to apply the fact that they are FREE is through service. Did you notice that there is an apparent contradiction here? Freedom leads to servitude? How do you make sense out of that?

3. 1 Peter 4:10 says that each Christian has received a special capacity to serve other Christians. In what ways are YOU employing your service to help other believers? Are you availing yourself of the help other Christians could offer you?

Practical help

Life in the Body of Christ involves give and it involves take. Nobody is a “giver” only and nobody is a “taker” only. YOU are a giver and a taker.

As a Christian (and if you are not, but would like to find out how to become a Christian, click here), you have been specially gifted by God to serve others - and you should be doing so!

But you also should expect others to be serving you if you have need. Are you trying to fight the temptation to log on to pornographic web sites? Many Christian men have exactly this struggle - and they shouldn’t have to struggle alone. There are Christians, probably in your church, who have
been specially gifted by God to help you battle that temptation with prayer, counsel and supportive friendship. But they have to know that you are having the struggle. Why not take the first step and ask for help? Approach a church leader you trust, or a friend in the church and ask for help. It could be your first step on the road to a porn-free life!
