For some Christians struggling with porn, the
notion that their old, sinful nature has gone is a cruel
joke.
Every visit to a smut site seems to confirm the
unrelenting grip of the old nature.
But what is the Scripture above actually
saying?
The Greek verb "has gone" — parerchomai
(par-er'-khom-ahee) — refers to an ongoing action, not a completed
work. It is more accurate to say that while the old nature is gone
(see Galatians 2:20), old memories and their associated habits are
still going out the door.
So if you're a Christian trying to resist porn,
cheer up. Count on the God who eliminated your old nature to clean up
its residue in due time (see Philippians 1:6).
