Passage:
Genesis 25:28-34*
Background: This is
the story of twin brothers, Esau and Jacob. Esau was
born first and therefore was rightful heir to his
father Isaac's estate. Back then, the oldest son
became head of the family, and everyone else worked
for him.
28. Now Isaac loved
Esau, because he had a taste for game [and Esau
was a good hunter], but Rebekah [the
mother] loved Jacob.
29. And when Jacob had cooked
stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was
famished;
30. and Esau said to Jacob,
"Please let me have a swallow of that red stuff
there, for I am famished."
31. But Jacob said, "First
sell me your birthright."
32. And Esau said, "Behold, I
am about to die; so of what use then is the
birthright to me?"
33. And Jacob said, "First
swear to me"; so he swore to him, and sold his
birthright to Jacob.
34. Then Jacob gave Esau
bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and
rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his
birthright.
Questions
1. Was Esau really about
to die as he stated in verse 32?
2. Do Christians have a
birthright? If yes, what is it?
Practical
help
Pornography stimulates for
a moment, just like stew satisfies hunger
temporarily.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:25:
"
do not be anxious for your life, as to what you
shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor for your body,
as to what you shall put on. Is not life more than
food, and the body than clothing?"
Preserve your walk with the Lord
and relationships with family and friends by resisting
momentary, selfish activities.
Start by asking God to help you
see the big picture of your life.
