Practical help

We tend to have a pretty high opinion of our own abilities and wisdom. One aspect of the fear of the Lord is a balanced understanding of who we are and the humble acceptance of our great need for God’s wisdom and power. A humble person, dependant on the Lord’s strength, will more likely turn from evil — from things like Web porn for example. A prideful independent person will stumble in his own limited strength.

So what does turning to use porn — or clicking to use it — cost you in terms of your health? Consider things like lost sleep and rest, relational tensions with those closest to you, lost spiritual vitality and the feelings of guilt and shame and failure that weight upon your heart. Porn use produces great physical and emotional stress. Prolonged stress takes a huge toll on your health.

Verse eight tells us that a good dose of humble turning from evil with God’s help will bring healing and refreshment to your weary body and heart. How does a little healing and refreshment sound to you today? Don’t just sit there. Take action. Bow before the Lord in humility and dependence. Your own efforts have most likely yielded poor results so far. Fear the Lord and turn from pornography today. You will experience healing and refreshment in Him and the strength to face the battle for another day.
