Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages: James 5:16*

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

Questions

1. According to James 5:16, what are two things Christians can do for each other?

2. According to this same verse, what can we expect to happen when these two things occur?

Practical help

“Confession” The word conjures up frightening images of judgment for some. For others, that of an anonymous story-telling. The Bible pictures something far different.

The Bible presents a powerful picture of brother to brother (or sister to sister) truth-telling. It is one man telling another man (or even a group of men), “I have sinned and I need to start over.” It is that listener, or those listeners, responding by wrapping their arms around the one who has stumbled and praying for him. It is a picture of loving restoration. Sound enticing? Sound like something you would like to experience because that is EXACTLY where you are with respect to Internet porn? Guess where you are most likely to find such support? The church. That’s right. The church.

You might not find such support listed in the on-going ministries of your local church, but the chances are very good that if you approach one of the leaders of your congregation and tell him the truth about your struggle and ask him for help, he’ll come along side of you and help you. Maybe he’ll enlist others to help you, too. He’ll probably pray for you. And God will provide deliverance for you through the prayer of that righteous man.
