temptation.
Passage: Psalm 20:7*
Some boast in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will boast in the name of the Lord, our God.
Questions
1. What kind of boasting is foolish and unfounded? What boasting is biblical and correct?
2. What weaponry do you bring to the battle against sexual sin in your life?
Practical help
Since time past the nations of the world have boasted of their armies and weapons and military might, but none of this is lasting. Empires, kingdoms and great nations come and go. They rise to power and then they vanish.
King David, the writer of this verse, understood that the security and strength of Israel was never in the number of horses or chariots they possessed, but rather in God’s power to protect and lead them to victory. Only God can preserve a kingdom or a nation or an individual.
In your battle against porn, what (or who) are you depending on for victory? Most of us tend to trust in our own weaponry — our horses and chariots — rather than in God’s limitless power. That is a flawed battle plan.
Your best plan for battle is to be sure your confidence is in the Lord Jesus alone, who gives eternal victory. Keep your eyes on Him and you will have ample reason to boast of all that He does to lead you through this day.
