Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you
stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: Psalm 23:1*
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not
want.
Questions
1. What kind of relationship exists between a
shepherd and his sheep?
2. What would it take for you not to be in
“want”?
Practical help
These words were written by David the King. David
knew what being a shepherd was all about and he knew sheep. The
experience of caring for his father’s sheep early in life served to
teach him many things about his relationship with God. He came to
understand that the Lord was like a shepherd to him and that he could
rest in quiet contentment in His care. He didn’t need anything
else.
Does the concept of contentment describe your situation
today? How much of your current struggle with Web porn comes from a
lack of contentment? The more time you spend viewing pornography, the
more the fleshly desire to lust for what you do not have — for what is
not yours is reinforced. When you log on to smut, what is it that you
really want? More exciting sex? The attention of some cyber lover?
Satisfaction? Pleasure? A sense of contentment? You have been through
the routine enough to know that contentment is the last thing that
porn use delivers.
Take a break from porn. What you really need
is a shepherd. If you are a Christian, consider the rest and
contentment that comes from being close to your Shepherd — Jesus.
Wondering sheep are nothing new to Him. If you draw close to Him,
He’ll take you back in.
