Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passages:
1 Thessalonians. 5:11* -
Therefore encourage one another, and build up one another, just as
you also are doing.
Hebrews 3:13* -
But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still
called Today, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
Hebrews 10:24-25* -
24. and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and
good deeds,
25. not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of
some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.
Questions
1. According to 1 Thessalonians 5:11, we are to build up one
another. What do you think of when you envision someone building up
someone else?
2. According to Hebrews 3:13, what is one of the benefits of
encouragement?
3. According to Hebrews 10:24-25, what are we to encourage each
other to DO?
Practical help
There is something undeniably positive about the verses in Scripture
that mention encouragement. They bring to mind a friend trying to help another friend make
progress in some regard.
That is what Christians are to do and be for each other -
encouragers. If you are wrestling with Internet porn, hear this loud and clear from the
eXXit team: You will make more progress in your wrestling match against pornography by
pursuing love and good deeds than you will by seeking to avoid porn!
Resisting temptation is good and necessary, but it is only the small
half of the equation. The greater part is the need to replace what you are resisting with
what is good, namely LOVE for others. Search out a community of friends in Christ where
there is this mutual commitment to encouragement and to building up. Watch the power of
God work change in your life through the powerful dynamic of biblical one
anothering.
