Passage: Psalm 23:2-3a*
2. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He
leads me beside quiet waters.
3. He restores my
soul;
Questions
1. In this passage written by David, what were the
kinds of needs that David saw God meet in his life?
2. How did David respond to God’s
provision?
Practical help
As a shepherd, David saw how completely his sheep
depended upon him. The life and safety of the flock was at stake. In
his life as a man, he came to appreciate how completely dependent he
truly was upon God. He learned to rely upon God for what he needed in
every area of his life — physical, emotional and spiritual. He knew
God as his Provider.
Just as in David’s case, all of our deeper
needs are met in relationship with God. As Provider, God never
intended that your deeper needs — whether they be physical, emotional
or spiritual — be met through the use of pornography. In fact, you
know very well that porn use only leaves a person feeling more needy
and dissatisfied. God’s design and desire is that your needs be met in
communion with His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the Provider.
Take
a break from porn. Maybe what you need today is to see God as your
Provider. Maybe it would help in your struggle to see Jesus as the one
who will fill the needy places in your heart. Full hearts don’t need
the cheap substitute of porn because they already have fellowship with
the Provider. If you are a Christian, all of your sins have been
forgiven in Christ. You have freedom to take a step closer to Him and
begin to know Him as your Provider.
