Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage: Jeremiah 8:11,12*
11. They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.
"Peace, peace," they say, when there is no peace.
12. Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no
shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they
will be brought down when they are punished, says the Lord.
Questions
1. In your struggle with pornography, have you been attacking the
symptom or the root cause?
2. Have you been deceived into thinking that pornography is not a
serious problem, that "everybody does it?"
3. What is the destiny of those who deceive people into taking sin
lightly?
Practical help
Peace, which all of us long for, is a bad thing, if it is promoted
as a salve to eliminate the hurt and pain of sin. There are those who argue that sinful
behaviors such as pornography addiction are unavoidable and natural, and that we shouldn't
worry ourselves over them. Those who treat porn lightly and act as if it's no big deal are
blinded by Satan, and will sooner or later (we hope not too late) be confronted with their
lie.
Shame, on the other hand, is a good thing, if it is a response to sin. If you feel ashamed
of your conduct, this is the first step of repentance. Use your shame as a red flag to
alert you to something really deeply wrong, something that can't be treated lightly.
Go after the full treatment, the major medical plan. Seek a "heart transplant"
(see Romans 12:2). This transformation starts with acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior
(start learning about it by clicking here), and ends when
we arrive in our final home with him.
