Passage: Jeremiah 17:14*
Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved,
for you are the one I praise.
Questions
1. Who is it that does the healing and saving according to this
verse?
2. Does the writer seem to think he has any other possible way to be
saved than by the Lord?
3. What do you suppose he is asking to be healed from?
Practical help
Healing and saving lives from physical injury or sickness often
happens by "natural causes." Although it can be argued that God does the healing
in those instances as well, it isn't always necessary for him to take direct supernatural
action to effect a cure. In fact, modern medicine seems to be doing fairly well despite
the extreme limitations of understanding that medical science has developed of the human
body.
In this case, the ailment needing healing is not a physical sickness but a spiritual one.
It is the departure from oneness with God spoken of in Romans 3:23. From such sickness
there is only one cure.
In your struggle with web porn, are you seeking a natural cure, or trying to fix it by
your own effort? If so, you may have some success but you will never have a total victory.
There is only one way to be truly healed from the scars and brokenness caused by sin. Ask
the Lord to be your healer by giving him the fruit of praise from your lips.
