Passage: 1 John 3:2-3*
2. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.
3. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
Questions
1. What does this passage say about who we are now?
2. What does it say about what we will become at Jesus’ coming?
3. How does having this hope impact our lives today?
Practical help
A promise can be a powerful thing, especially when the one making the promise has proven to be trustworthy and has a track record of following through on their promises.
When my kids were small I often promised to do fun and special things with them several days in advance. They would go crazy for days with anticipation. The waiting made the fulfillment of the promise even more special. It was all they could think of until I made good on the promise.
Through faith in Christ, we know that we are God’s children, adopted into His family by grace. We also know that because God has promised, when Jesus appears we will completely like Him. No more struggles with our flesh and no more temptation to sin. That’s a wonderful promise!
As we keep this promise in view and fix our gaze on Jesus and all that we are to become at His appearing, we will grow in purity here and now. Enjoy the anticipation of Jesus keeping His promise to you!
