Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages: Ephesians 5:10*

and do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them.

Questions

1. Is it likely that Paul was referring to sexual misdeeds when he wrote about "deeds of darkness"?

2. Is it likely that what he meant was, "If you're refraining from such deeds, don't start doing them, but if you're participating in them, stop!"?

3. What word does Paul use to characterize dark deeds? Why is this a particularly appropriate word?

4. At the end of this verse, Paul sets forth a vision for the future for every Christian. Christians are not only to shun dark deeds. What else are we called to do?

Practical help

Dark deeds — deeds done in darkness — don't help us become what we want to become. They are completely "unprofitable."

God envisions you as influencing your world. He envisions you not only refraining from dark deeds but being a light bulb, exposing darkness by the bright light of your lifestyle.

Because it is a dark deed, your involvement in pornography short-circuits this opportunity. It is unprofitable. It won't take you where you want to go in life.

There is something more than seeking fulfillment in front of a computer screen. Real fulfillment is being a change agent for the Lord, shining brightly for Him.

First step? Walk away from the dark into the light! And as you turn to the light, ask a Christian brother to walk with you.
