Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages: Ephesians 5:15*

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise

Questions

1. If Paul had said to "walk" the way cowboys walk, or to "walk" the way old men walk, we would have immediately known what he was telling us to do. The thought is that we are to "imitate" the walk of someone else. Who is he telling us to imitate in the verse above?

2. There is a special meaning that attaches to the term "wisdom" when it is used in the Bible. The best way to understand wisdom is to say that it is "skill in living." A "wise" carpenter drives a nail straight. A "wise" dentist finds cavities that need filling. What skills are especially needed to be a wise man in terms of ethics, morality, spirituality?

3. It is possible to imitate foolish men as well as wise men. What characteristics of foolishness can you list? Looks pretty unappealing, doesn't it?

Practical help

When combatting a chronic temptation, such as viewing Internet pornography, it is helpful to bring the issue of "wisdom" into the discussion. Wisdom asks, "What will be the result of this activity if I continue in it for the next six months, two years?" or "Does viewing pornography help me to become the man of purity and integrity I long to be in Christ?" or "If I stopped viewing Internet porn NOW and used the time I am currently dedicating to surfing the Net for pornographic images instead in service to others or in Bible study or prayer or in some other wholesome activity, would I be farther along the road to maturity in Christ?" Step back from the computer long enough to examine your involvement in pornography and you'll see that you don't need it - and you really don't even WANT it!
