Passage: 2 Corinthians 4:18*
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For
what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Questions
1. What message does Paul communicate in this passage?
2. How can we apply his perspective to our struggles with
pornography?
Practical help
Perhaps more than any other passage in the Bible, in 2 Corinthians
4:18, faith takes center stage.
When Paul admonishes us to "fix our eyes ... on what is
unseen," he's telling us to believe a laundry list of audacious claims: that angels
and demons exist, that heaven and hell are real, that God is no illusion.
So often we lose this focus. Our eyes zero in on the visible -- the
very visible porn images tempting us.
The call to avoid pornography isn't just a hand-slap reminder to
change our ways. It's a call to a new reality, one in which the eternal eclipses the
temporary. And that's a sight for sore eyes.
