Passage: Colossians 3:1-7*

1. If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

2. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

3. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

4. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

5. Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

6. For it is on account of these things that the wrath of God will come,

7. and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.

Questions

1. Where does Paul say your thoughts should be centered?

2. What do you think it means to set your mind on things above?

3. What is the “Therefore” of verse 5 there for?

Practical help

Dale Carnegie was on to something when he wrote the best-selling book, “The Power of Positive Thinking.” The Bible goes one better and challenges Christians with the Power of Right Thinking. “Right thinking” entails reckoning with truth. The truth for Christians is this: They have been made spiritually alive and have been given resurrection life — the life of Jesus! These truths should dictate the way Christians think.

Christians should consciously remind themselves of the priorities of Heaven as they walk through the day — love, purity, grace, God’s Kingdom.

And they should consciously remind themselves that they are now children of the King, having been rescued (saved) from an eternity in Hell and sent on their ways to an eternity in Heaven! Because of this, they have no business dabbling in “immorality and impurity.”

“Right thinking” provides the power for victory over an ongoing struggle with pornography. The moment temptation strikes, you can retrain your brain to:

1. Think God’s thoughts and

2. Laugh at the inappropriateness of you — a child of God — looking at that stuff.
