Title: Prayer and Your Life in Christ (the Wheel, Part 3) ------------- Date: 02/08/1999
Keywords: "Christ” “prayer” “wheel”
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is the third part in a six-part series on the “Wheel Illustration” (a link to a picture of the Wheel can be found later in this study). The Wheel depicts how Christians can experience the full life Jesus promised to his followers in John 10:10 (“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”). For folks struggling with Internet porn, the illustration shows one more thing: how to give the slip to smut. This study looks at one spoke of the wheel, prayer.

Passages

John 15:7*
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

Philippians 4:6-7*

6. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

7. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Questions

1. Are you anxious about a pornography habit? If yes, describe how you know when you're anxious (e.g., you perhaps feel agitated, guilty, etc.).

2. What power does God's peace have (see Philippians 4:7)?

Practical help

In preceding studies, we reviewed two critical truths:
1. Jesus inhabits you. If you're a Christian, he occupies the hub of your life. See the Wheel, Part 1.

2. Jesus empowers you with wisdom from the Bible. The Scriptures are how Jesus talks to you. Like a wheel spoke, they radiate power from the hub. See the Wheel, Part 2.

There is a third vital truth: Jesus listens to you. He hears you whenever you pray to him. Like the Bible, prayer is a spoke that connects you to Christ, the hub of your life.

The prayer spoke has an amazing benefit for folks struggling with Web porn. Talking to Jesus relieves the anxiety many of them experience after viewing the smut. This peace from God prepares them to listen up when Jesus speaks to them through the Bible. This peace also helps them stand strong when tempted by porn.

Are you confused and confounded by porn habits? Tell God how you feel. Admit your struggles.

Then count on his peace to pull you through.
