Passage: Ephesians 5:11* And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them. Questions 1. What descriptive words does Paul use when speaking of sinful behavior in the verse above?   2. If a Christian is not to participate in these evil deeds, what does Paul say a Christian should do about them?   Practical help In this one short verse, Paul gives a reason to not be involved in porn and a vision for combating it. First, the reason for avoiding it. All sinful behavior, including the lustful viewing of pornography, is "unfruitful." How true! Do you remember the last time you logged onto the Internet and surfed for porn? When it was all over, what benefit had you derived? Did you feel more alive? Were you better equipped to serve God, love the people in your world? Aside from satisfying a base desire at the expense of another person’s exposure, what "fruit" was borne? In an honest moment, you would probably agree with Paul’s assessment. Viewing porn is "unfruitful." Now, on to the vision for combating this unfruitful activity! Paul says that we who oppose ("unfruitful deeds of darkness") should expose. What form should that exposure take? Obviously, it could take many forms. This eXXit writer has requested that convenience stores in his neighborhood remove shrink-wrapped magazines from the shelves. You could try that one. Or, you could direct fellow strugglers to eXXit, a site where they can find God’s strength through God’s Word. You could write letters to influential corporations and individuals who could make a difference. You could pray for the eradication of the vile stuff. The options are legion. But here is the point: You, who understand that porn is pointless, are not the problem. You are the solution. You’ll stop viewing it, sure.
