Question

1. What does it mean to you that the Lord is a shepherd?

2. Does the picture of the Lord given in the Exodus passage above sound like a shepherd to you?

Practical help

Notice the famous Twenty-third Psalm doesn’t start with a question, "Is the LORD my shepherd?" or "Who will be a shepherd for me?" It begins, "The LORD is my shepherd…." David is proud to be connected to the Lord. This relationship with God is the greatest fact of his life. If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, this Lord is your shepherd as well. Declare it with your lips and repeat it to yourself often today as you face life’s temptations.

Notice how Moses sings about the Lord in the Exodus passage above. Has God’s goodness ever swept you off your feet in a similar way? If not, you need to get to know Him better.

The role of a shepherd in your life is completely different from any other relationship you can imagine. This is because no human being can be God for you. Even the most talented sheep ever born will never rise to the level of even the worst shepherd — it is just not within its capacity as a sheep. No one but God has the ability to provide you the security and strength you really need to overcome your sexual temptations and lead a good life.

If you have a problem with pornography then, in simplest terms, you need the Lord to be your shepherd.
