Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The story of Samson (Judges 13-16) depicts the tragedy that can result from giving in to lust. Let us see what we can learn from his experience.

Passage: Judges 14:1-4 *

1 THEN Samson went down to Timnah and saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines.

2 So he came back and told his father and mother, "I saw a woman in Timnah, one of the daughters of the Philistines; now therefore, get her for me as a wife."

3 Then his father and his mother said to him, "Is there no woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?" But Samson said to his father, "Get her for me, for she looks good to me."

4 However, his father and mother did not know that it was of the LORD, for He was seeking an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines were ruling over Israel.

Questions

1. Why was it that Samson fell in love with a woman among the nation of the enemy?

2. Did Samson's parents know what God had planned? Did Samson?

3. Please note that this is the last time in the story of Samson that God reveals to us His plans for him. Is it possible that this is from Samson quickly allowing sin to frustrate God's plans?

4. What do you believe God has planned for you to accomplish?

Practical help

Think for a moment where you are in your life right now. What greater impact could you have if you stopped viewing Internet pornography and instead diverted the time, energy and money you spent on that toward worthwhile endeavors. If you did divert your time, energy and money to more worthwhile endeavors, you will feel much better about yourself at the end of the day.

God does have a plan for you. ("For I know the plans that I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope." — Jeremiah 29:11). God will bless you if you seek that plan.

For Tomorrow

Consider what you need to focus on to accomplish God's plan for your life. Write down some ways you focus on God.
