of death.

Practical
help
The purpose of the book of
Proverbs is to teach wisdom. To become wise is to
understand how life works and to live accordingly. The
first lesson in wisdom is to fear God, which is
another way of saying to place yourself under God,
because He is greater than you are and to deeply
respect (or fear) Him (Proverbs 1:7; 2:4-5; 9:10).
When you do this, you throw out your own opinions and
develop the ability to listen.
Most people don’t listen
well. They would rather have their own opinions even
if they are wrong. They think that the secret to
understanding life is to look for the answers within
themselves. Since they had nothing to do with creating
life and have no powers to change the basic laws of
the universe, this is frankly a stupid place to look
for answers. Proverbs would call such a person a fool
(Proverbs 1:22-23; 12:15; 15:5; 19:3).
As you grow in wisdom you will
continue to marvel at how following God’s
instructions leads to an abundantly blessed life. This
is not a life without problems, but in the midst of
problems, there is a peace and security that cannot be
completely explained. In addition, as you grow in
wisdom, you will also begin to see where you have been
lead away from deadly snares…like
porn.
