Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 2 Corinthians 13:7*

Now we pray to God that you do no wrong; not that we ourselves may appear approved, but that you may do what is right, even though we should appear unapproved.

Question

1. Paul states his prayer for the Corinthians both negatively and positively. What does he pray to God on their behalf?

2. About what is he unconcerned?

Practical help

The Bible is filled with stories of the power of prayer. David’s victory (1 Samuel), Elijah’s drought and Elisha’s miracles (1 and 2 Kings), Hezekiah’s lengthened life (2 Kings), the church’s prayer for Peter’s release from prison (Acts 12) - and on and on the list could go.

In this passage in 2 Corinthians 13, Paul prays a short, simple prayer that you could pray for yourself at the moment of temptation: THAT YOU WOULD DO NO WRONG and THAT YOU WOULD DO WHAT IS RIGHT. There is power in that prayer. It is biblical. It is true. It puts the will of God above what “feels” good at any given moment.

When tempted to view pornography, this verse provides a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13 - see eXXit studies, February 1-5, 2000). Pray for the God-given grace to not do what is wrong, but to do what is right. When you sincerely pray that prayer, you marshal the power of God.
