Passage: 2 Thessalonians
1:11-12*
11. To this end also we pray for you always that our God may count
you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith
with power;
12. in order that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in
you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Question
1. Paul makes an assumption of the Thessalonian Christians in verse
11. He assumes that they have a certain desire. What desire does he assume
they (and all Christians) have?
2. According to verse 12, why does Paul want to see the
Thessalonians desires for goodness satisfied?
Practical help
If you are a Christian, you have a desire for goodness. (If you want
to find out how to become a Christian, click here.) The
Holy Spirit planted a desire for a good, righteous lifestyle in you when you put your
trust in Jesus.
Temptation can dull that desire and when temptation is yielded to, that desire can flicker
until the flame seems almost out.
How to fan the flame? Join Paul in prayer and ask God to fulfill your desire for goodness.
He will gladly answer that prayer. Better yet, ask others to join you in praying that
prayer. Aim your prayers specifically against the ugliness of involvement with porn. Paul
had great confidence that prayers for goodness would be answered, with the result that
Jesus would be glorified by the lifestyles of the redeemed. You can have the same
confidence! Pray!!
