This concludes our series on some practical elements of prayer: Ask, Seek and Knock. Conclusion -- results are guaranteed.

Passage: Matthew 7:7-11*

7. "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

8. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

9. "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?

10. Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?

11. If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Questions

1. Why does Jesus want you to be so persistent in pursuing Him?

2. How do the promises of verse 8 affect your faith in the long term?

3. What can you know about God's love for you from verses 9 - 11?

Practical help

If, in struggling with an addiction to Internet porn, you've ever felt like giving up, then join the club. Anyone who's struggled with anything would raise their hand and say "Me too!" That's why Jesus didn't say to ask once, and get it now, or seek once and find it now, or knock once and I'll open it for you now. The original Greek verb forms in this passage are: keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking; and to nail down the results He says, "who could be better than your Father in heaven at giving you what you need?" Jesus is telling you that faith can grow through the persistent exercise of prayer. Here He's giving you the "fitness center" where you can exercise your faith. Not only can you exercise your faith, but the result -- what God knows you need -- is guaranteed.
