Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
1 Kings 19:12*
After the earthquake came
a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after
the fire came a gentle whisper.
Questions
1. Why does the writer of
1 Kings contrast the earthquake and fire with God's
gentle whisper?
2. How much time do you devote
to listening to God?
Practical
help
Want to escape contact
with God? Then take C.S. Lewis' advice, worth quoting
in full:
Avoid silence, avoid
solitude, avoid any train of thought that leads off
the beaten track. Concentrate on money, sex,
status, health and (above all) on your own
grievances. Keep the radio on. Live in a crowd. Use
plenty of sedation. If you must read books, select
them very carefully. But you'd be safer to stick to
the papers. You'll find the advertisements helpful,
especially those with a sexy or a snobbish
appeal.
If you've fallen into a porn
habit, the quickest way out might be the way down
on your knees. Don't let guilt keep you from
listening to the whispers of the father. And turn off
that computer; note how much of Lewis' list sounds
like a prescient description of the
Internet.
