Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 2 Corinthians 4:7*

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

Questions

1. How are believers like treasures hidden in fragile containers?

2. How can this insight apply to pornography?

Practical help

"God willing."

This phrase often falls from the lips of old-timers. Plans, trips or duties set in the future tend to carry this simple proviso, attached to the end of a statement like a caboose. "God willing," they say again and again.

Porn strugglers could learn from such humility. After all, pornography targets our very sexuality — the thing that most defines us at the hour of our birth. Pride in the face of such an assault makes no sense. Our many failures demonstrate our fragile natures. Even before you have a chance to fail, humbly say "God willing" about your prospects for success.

Moreover, the apostle Paul makes clear in 2 Corinthians 4:7 that any successes — any "power" — we do enjoy in this or other areas comes from God. He met our needs, and we reap the benefits. When we succeed, we should say, "God willing."

That's as close as we can get to an all-purpose response to pornography.
