Passage: Matthew 9:17*

"Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved." — Jesus Christ

Questions

1. What is Jesus driving at in this passage?

2. How can we apply his message to pornography?

Practical help

Pianist Dave Brubeck made a name for himself in the '50s by using unusual time signatures for jazz compositions. One of the most famous, "Take Five," jettisoned traditional 4/4 time — and became a jazz standard.

If only we showed as much creativity in our struggles with pornography. How often we return to the "old wineskins" of past methods. What may have worked last month may fail us today. Let's try some new methods. For instance, why not pray for 30 seconds about avoiding Web porn every time we turn on our PCs? It's a different approach, and it just might work.

But don't limit your applications to that idea or any other ones you encounter. Pour yourself into new wineskins of your own making. Maybe you'll create your own "Take Five" method. And when that one fails, keep right on composing.
