Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11*

1. There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

11. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

Questions

1. Is sex included in verse 1?

2. What about pornography?

3. According to verse 11, at what time are all things beautiful?

4. Does God make us able to wait for the proper time?

Practical help

Before you answer question 2 too quickly, remember that Solomon, who wrote Ecclesiastes, was also one of the main authors of the Proverbs, which warn repeatedly about falling into the clutches of sexual sin and every other type of sin. So he can't be saying that it's OK to do anything you want, as long as you wait for the right time.

However, we do know that God invented sex and instructed men and women to enjoy it with his blessing (see Genesis 1:28). So, we can conclude that at the right time, it will be beautiful for us, too. There are plenty of other places where we can learn what is the right time, and the wrong time. We should also conclude that at the wrong time, sex isn't beautiful.

Pornography is a way to try to thwart God's timing. Instead of making something beautiful into something ugly by doing it at the wrong time, wait for the right time. Listen to God, who put eternity in your heart, and he will help you see the real beauty in sex.
