strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
John 15:4-5*
4. "Abide in Me, and I in
you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless
it abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless you
abide in Me.
5. "I am the vine, you are the
branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears
much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing.
Questions
1. Where does fruit
grow?
2. What is required for fruit to
be produced?
Practical
help
Of course fruit comes from
living branches, and branches are not living unless
they are connected to the trunk and root system. To
abide in Christ means to remain in Him. That produces
spiritual fruit in our lives things like love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians
5:22-23). Jesus was absolutely sure that remaining
close to Him would mean that our lives would become
fruitful, producing very tangible evidence of His life
flowing through us. You may have had some experience
with the exciting reality of this in your own
life.
Web porn use blocks the flow of
life giving nutrients from the vine to the branches.
Thats what sin does to us as Christians. It gets
in the way of our experiencing a close, fruit
producing relationship with Jesus. It brings us into a
fruitless existence a place of spiritual
barrenness.
The good news is that a
fruit-filled life is still available to us by
Gods grace. If we choose to confess the sin of
our porn involvement and turn to abide in Christ, once
again life-giving fellowship with Jesus will bring
fruit to our lives. It will never happen apart from
Him.
