Passage: Isaiah 40:28-31*

28.

Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become weary or tired.
His understanding is inscrutable.

29.

He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who lacks might He increases power.

30.

Though youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,

31.

Yet those who wait for the Lord
Will gain new strength;
They will mount up with wings like eagles,
They will run and not get tired,
They will walk and not become weary.

Questions

1. How is God described in these verses?

2. Who receives strength from God?

3. What does waiting have to do with it?

Practical help

Everyone becomes tired at some point or another, even the strongest people. Fortunately for all of us, God’s strength is never diminished, and he never tires. He understands our weakness and frailty and is never too tired or busy to listen and help. He wants us to depend upon Him as our source for strength. When you feel crushed by life and battered by temptation, remember that you can call upon God to renew your strength.

Waiting in the Lord is expecting that His promise of strength will lift us above the difficulties and temptation faced each moment. Waiting also means trusting in God and knowing that He will give us strength as we depend upon Him.

Have you become tired in your dealings with sexual temptation? Does your strength need renewing? Look to the Lord. He’s the only One who can give the kind of strength you need. Wait on Him, and trust Him to encourage and strengthen you today. Don’t go back to porn.
