Title: Temporarily Sweet ---------------------------------- Date: 3/6/2000
Keywords:   "seductive" "words"

Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Proverbs 5:3-4*

3. For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;

4. but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.

Question

What makes the adulteress in the passage above seductive — her looks, behavior, or words?

Practical help

We pointed out in a recent eXXit study that seductive words underlie most temptations.

When we give in to porn, for example, it's because we heed the "come-and-get-it" language, even if unspoken, that tantalizes, then traps us.

The passage above describes the tempter's tools: sweet, smooth words, cloaking a bitter, sharp dagger.

Struggling with porn? Listen to the silent words beneath the honeylike temptation. Then realize that when the sweet words fade, only bitter pain remains.

Perhaps you know what such pain is like: emptiness, disgust, self-hate, betrayal. Don't suffer the pain again. Reject the words that say "come and get it."
