The passage offers an interesting mix of the familiar and the
unusual.
The familiar: Alertness and prayer go a long way in the fight
against spiritual weakness -- including the temptation of Web porn. (It's an oft-told
point, but do it anyway.)
The unusual: Jesus spoke this passage as much to himself as his
disciples. Mark 14:34 makes clear that Jesus battled a far greater foe than the need for
sleep. The fate of mankind rested on his shoulders, and he wondered if he could bear the
weight. Eventually, he decided he could, laying his life down on the cross.
Jesus is our example, in weakness as well as every area. Now go and
do likewise.
