Passage: Ephesians 4:22-24*
22. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put
off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
23. to be made new in the attitude of your minds;
24. and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.
Questions
1. Have you been taught what Paul writes here?
2. How can this teaching help you fight Web porn?
Practical help
The fairy tale of "The Emperor's New Clothes" ends with a
child pointing out the emperor's nakedness to an entire town that knew better. The
Christian's new clothes ends with a reminder of our new look to a people who should
already know it.
Far removed from legalistic preachers and heavy-handed religionists,
the apostle Paul consistently invokes the new birth -- not guilt -- as a spur to righteous
living. The old way of deceit (and, we may add, Web porn) no longer "suits" us.
To live in corruption is like wearing a tuxedo to slop the pigs. The shoe no longer fits.
Mark Twain once wrote that clothes do make the man. Reason: Naked
people have little or no influence in society. Paul might have agreed.
