How we struggle with porn
may not be that different from how we battle other
issues in life. Few of us are so compartmentalized
that we can switch problem-solving modes as we move
from one arena of life to another. If we micromanage
our work problems, for example, we probably
micromanage our home challenges as well.
More to the point of the current
eXXit studies, if we fantasize about our sexual
fulfillment as happening in some future place and time
(such as in some imaginary porn scenario), we probably
visualize solutions to other issues in life as rooted
only in the future also.
The passages we've been looking
at lately warn against living in future places and
times. Expect untold problems in the there and then.
On the other hand, expect God in the here and
now.
These passages, especially
Jesus' comment above, do not apply only to porn
struggles. Or to work problems. Or to child-rearing
challenges. The advice to meet God in the here and now
applies to all areas of life without exception. We
cannot pick and choose which issues of life are for
the present versus the future. We should live in the
present and expect to find God there
across the board.
So don't expect victory with
your porn struggles in the present if you're living
out other aspects of your life in the
future.
Don't escape to the future in
any of your worries. Expect to meet God in all of your
concerns today.
Let tomorrow's issues all
of them, not just porn take care of themselves.
