Passage: Revelation 19:6-8*

6. Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For the Lord God Almighty reigns.

7. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.

8. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear." (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints)

Questions

1. How long is Jesus' wait for his wedding?

2. Who is his bride?

3. How does his bride prepare herself for the wedding?

Practical help

The prophetic image of the church as the "Bride of Christ" has deep roots in the Old Testament; God frequently speaks of his relationship to his people as that of a husband to wife. This is part of the reason that marriage should be treated with great respect and honor. In marriage relationships we have an opportunity to mirror God's intense desire to relate to us and to pour himself into us.

Our relationships outside of marriage, in contrast, are an opportunity to distort this image and degrade our nature. Relationships with pornography, in particular, are devastating in that they are in reality no relationship at all, but a pretense, a substitute for reality.

If you are married, invest yourself in your relationship to your spouse in the same way Jesus invested himself in relationship to you. If you are not married, look toward the future with patience, knowing that whether or not you do marry in this world, there is a wedding feast waiting for you. In whatever you do, put on clean linens to wear and not dirty rags.
