Passage: Malachi 2:10*

Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?

Questions

In context, this passage is talking about some specific "faith breaking" by the people of Judah. (Read verses 11 through 16.) In general, though, the passage addresses the heart's condition and how your identity should shape your attitude about things.

1. Consider that you were specially created by the God of the universe to be one of his children. Next consider that God loved you enough to establish a new covenant of grace to save you from sinful self destruction. (Click here if you want to know about this covenant.) How can this change the way you deal with temptations?

2. Let's update and paraphrase the last question in the today's verse to reflect the new covenant God now provides us: Why do we profane the new covenant of grace and live as if it means nothing to us?

Practical help

Imagine yourself deservedly in jail with the remainder of your life looking pretty hopeless. Now imagine a fatherly God giving you a full pardon with no strings attached. To top that off, this fatherly God gives you a "get out of jail free" card to keep in your pocket.

Today's practical help is just a list of questions you'd do well to ask yourself from time to time.

How do you respond to this kind of love?

What is the knowledge of having that card in your pocket going to do for you?

What are you going to do when the next overwhelming temptation comes along?

How are you going to approach life under grace?
