In general, though, the passage addresses the heart's condition and how your identity should shape your attitude about things. 1. Consider that you were specially created by the God of the universe to be one of his children. Now imagine a fatherly God giving you a full pardon with no strings attached. To top that off, this fatherly God gives you a "get out of jail free" card to keep in your pocket.
